They may have spent the past eight years focused on hard rock but the Ontario-based group currently raising eyebrows is lapping up success with their mellowest song to date.
A major breakthrough in the U.S. finally came this year for Finger Eleven with hit single “One Thing” off the band’s self-titled third album. Already reaching platinum status in Canada, the album is heading for a strong showing in the neighboring country. Friends since high school, the five-member band has waited since the release of its 1997 debut album Tip for a hit single. Patience has kept them humble, as they continue to play smaller venues and tour aggressively to keep their name on the lips of listeners.
The difference with latest album Finger Eleven, say the members, was a desire to stay open to opportunities. The band started off on the familiar path of modern-rock angst but began to consider other options as recording progressed. Finger Eleven follows 2000’s The Greyest of Blue Skies, a much more edgy, traditional Finger Eleven-style album.
Finger Eleven is singer Scott Anderson, bassist Sean Anderson, guitarists Rick Jackett and James Black and drummer Rich Beddoe. The quintet grew up in Burlington, Ont., about 30 miles west of Toronto and 70 miles from Buffalo, New York. Their latest album was recorded over several months in a farmhouse in an undisclosed location in Ontario.
The band is currently touring North America with several dates throughout the summer. For tour details visit the official site, www.fingereleven.com
Our Thoughts
Imagine plugging on for several years without a major U.S. hit single? It must take a lot of patience and perseverance especially when some acts reach instant success.
