Her eyes were opened to the reality of a professional music career, but that never deterred long-time songwriter Vivian Green from taking the plunge and charting her own musical course.
While touring for a year as a backup singer for fellow Philadelphia native Jill Scott, 23-year-old Green witnessed first-hand the demands of touring and the stringent rules of the music industry and realized that she could handle anything thrown her way. A professional songwriter since age 16, Green is a new addition to the music industry with the album release of A Love Story, a unique approach that follows a young woman in and out of love. Green puts her soulful sounds to the lyrics and the results are a dynamic debut.
Instead of working with celebrity songwriting teams and producers, Green opted to work with the people who helped her get a record deal with Columbia Records. Their belief in her inspired her belief in them to help make this album a success.
While Green toured with Scott throughout 2001, her manager was sending the demo to labels in the hopes of signing a deal. Many labels expressed interest in her talent so she quit with Scott to focus on getting a deal. Three months later, she signed with Columbia.
Long before touring with Scott, Green was a backup singer and writer for the Boys II Men. As early as 16, Green was writing songs for professional artists but actually began writing songs at 11. By age 15, Green performed with a big band in front of large audiences and at gigs including weddings and banquets, all of which prepared her for a solo career.
Green will be on tour throughout much of this year in support of her album debut.
