George Strait, The 'King of Country', has announced that he will be starring in the sequel to his 1992 film "Pure Country".

The movie, under the Warner Bros. name, will be called "A Pure Country Gift", and will be directed by the same man who directed the first film, Chris Cain.

Cain, if you recall, directed a slew of movies in the late eighties and early nineties.

In 1988, he directed, produced, and wrote the film "Young Guns", which starred Emilio Estevez, Charlie Sheen, and Kiefer Sutherland.

He also directed 'The Next Karate Kid' in 1994, 'The Amazing Panda Adventure' in 1995, and 'Gone Fishin' in 1997.

According to reports on the internet, Cain co-wrote the new film's screenplay with his son, Dean, the actor who played Superman in the "Lois and Clark" television series. He too has a role in Strait's film.

Cain noted that "A Pure Country Gift" will not be dubbed a 'sequel'. Instead, it will be "a movie in the 'Pure Country' genre."

When it was released, "Pure Country" made fifteen million dollars at the box office and sold over 6 million of the related soundtrack.

According to Cain, the new film circles around three angels who bless a baby with a great singing voice.

"In her climb to fame and fortune, she breaks some of the angels' rules, so they take away her big voice. Life has rules; if you follow them, life works. That's the moral of the story."

Cain conjured up the idea while watching "so many athletes, singers and actors disintegrate every day, even though they have the world by the tail."

The main role was given to Katrina Elam, a 25 year-old country singer who released her debut album in 2004 and has toured with Rascal Flatts and has written songs for Idol star Carrie Underwood.

The younger version of her character is played by Kaitlyn Doriff, whose father, Steve Doriff, composed the score for the first film and will be taking that role again this time around.

The movie will be filmed in Nashville, Tenessee.

In other George Strait news, the country star recently released a new single off of his album "Twang", which came out on August 11th, 2009. It has been given favourable reviews and went gold in the first week of sales.

Our Thoughts
George Strait has never let his fans down with a bad decision- even after almost thirty years of being a country musician, he is still as respectable and talented as ever.
