Hasidic Jewish rapper Matisyahu has agreed to let his song be used as NBC's 'Countdown to Vancouver' promotional campaign for the 2010 Olympics.
The R&B rap and rock musician broke into the music scene in late 2005, will lend his song "One Day", a single off of his sophomore album "Light" (which was released in August this year).
In an unknown interview, Matisyahu described the song as being about "unity and coming together for one common cause; about putting aside all differences and issues to connect in some way."
Giving the song to NBC meant giving it to their affiliated stations as well.
On November 3rd, the campaign aired on all of NBC's sister stations, including Bravo, USA, MSNBC and Oxygen. It will continue airing until February.
The commercial features current Olypmic contenders playing their sports, including Apolo Ohno (speed skating), Lindsey Vonn (alpine skiing), Shaun White (snowboarding), Gretchen Bleiler (snowboarding) and Tanith Belbin and Ben Agosto (figure skating)
The Winter Games, by the way, take place February 12-28.
Our Thoughts
Matisyahu's uplifting song goes well with the overall theme of the Olympics: togetherness and strength.
