Although he has a lot of movement and a fairly large and loyal fan base in his home country of Canada, Sam Roberts has decided to start venturing much of his attention into marketing to the United States.
The Montreal-based band was awarded with three Juno awards in 2003 for their, "We Were Born in a Flame" album.
While their last album did a considerable amount of success in Canada, the band still faced some frustrations and anxieties with it when it came to exposure in the United States.
"The frustration of the last record not getting out further to a broader audience in the States is fueling a lot of how we're thinking about [Chemical City] and what we plan to do with it," Roberts told Billboard. "We'll do whatever it takes to make sure as many people as possible hear about it. We'll certainly put in the time on the road, which we've always placed as a priority, anyway."
Their latest album, "Chemical City" is set to arrive on May 16th.
In addition to his plan to move forward geographically, Roberts has also stretched his creative capabilities by adding a more personal feeling to his lyrics.
"I remember Jimi Hendrix used to go to Morocco and sit there and smoke hash and write tunes where the desert meets the ocean. That sort of thing appealed to me as an idea. I wanted to live my own ideas and incorporate the ideas into adventures and those adventures into my writing."
Tour dates for the "Chemical City" tour began on May 9th in New York (at the NY Mercury Lounge) and will continue on until May 27th in George, WA (at the Sasquatch Festival).
Our Thoughts
We look forward to Sam Roberts' new work and we hope that he experiences the same amount of success and exposure, if not more, in the United States as he did with Canada.
