With a grappling hold on a good portion of the entertainment business, World Wrestling Entertainment business has announced its recent prize: the music industry.

Although the idea seems outlandish, many observers of the industry believe that the WWE and the music industry have always been tied together – just not as obvious as they are about to make it.

Just a few years ago, celebrity wrestler John Cena made his character's persona and name through his music after releasing a solo album of himself, which in turn sold hundreds of thousands of copies to his fans. As a result, there is talk of a follow up album.

The WWE have decided that the next step would be to create a music label – the WWE Music Group.

"Superstars really drive the business," said Alan Gould, an analyst as Natexis Bleichroeder told Reuters. "Many of WWE's stars today are rappers or singers and to see them create their own (music group) makes sense. This is one more way that management is exploring traditional and new-media outlets to hopefully grow the business."

In the past, various musicians have made appearances in some Wrestlemania events – including big names like Alice Cooper, Ray Charles, Boyz II Men, and Motorhead – just to name a few.

The goal behind the music introduction is to help the characters on the WWE programs to stay current with the music industry, in addition to exposing new musical talent on the program.

The WWE Music Group will be overseen by Neil Lawi, whom was previously a publicist for Columbia Records.

Lawi has told the press that various genres will come out of the WWE Music Group – from pop to Latin, and everything in between.

Lilian Garcia, a ring announcer, is already working on a single with pop icon Jon Secada.

Our Thoughts

It will be interesting to see all the different types of music that will be available through the group.
