British bad-boy rock group Oasis is back. In a recent interview with BBC Radio 1, Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher spoke of the group’s forthcoming album, citing May 16 as its international release date.
Gallagher told the BBC that the album, which is the band’s first release since 2002's "Heathen Chemistry" has a title, although he declined to unveil it.
"It's my favourite one of the last four," Gallagher said of the album, "Because we're all contributing to the song writing now, there's a different feel to it. The only songs that actually sound like Oasis are Andy Bell's."
Gallagher added that the group hasn't yet decided on an initial single. "There was an obvious first single," he said, "but I was singing it. After 12 years of Oasis, Liam thought that might sound a bit odd; people might think he'd have left the band."
The album features 12 songs written by Gallagher, brother Liam, bassist Andy Bell and guitarist Gem Archer. Tracks titles include; 'The Importance of Being Idle', 'Guess God Thinks I'm Able' and 'Part of the Queue.'
Gallagher’s annoyance with the city of London was what prompted him to write ‘Part of the Queue’, a song that touches on the overcrowded streets of London and the waiting times that come with an overpopulated city.
“I am getting quite fed up with London at the minute…When I moved to London about 12 years ago it blew me away but the novelty has worn off. It has become so overcrowded we have decided to up sticks and move out," he said.
Oasis has already confirmed three outdoor stadium shows for this summer in the United Kingdom: June 29 in Glasgow, July 2 in Manchester, England, and July 9 in London. Additional tour plans have yet to be announced.
Our Thoughts
The Gallagher boys have had a very turbulent career, though as they’ve gotten older it seems to have calmed down immensely. We’re looking forward to the new album.
